It felt like a Hallmark movie ending and it took away from the private moment Joshua and Lucy shared at the end. I was finding myself cringing instead of enjoying the ending. The movie, on the other hand, made it a bit cheesy.

It is filled with emotion and I was smiling the whole time reading about how in love they were. They could have gone about it in a different way that incorporated more of what happened in the book. However, in the movie, this whole scene in the movie felt very rushed and butchered. From this chapter, we learn more about Joshua and why he is so cold-hearted sometimes, although he still cares a lot about Lucy. At work Joshua and Lucy hate each other and this was a turning point in the dynamic between them. He stayed in bed with her making sure that her temperature wasn’t worsening and was her overall caretaker. In the book, the main character Lucy, fell ill and Joshua, the other main character, went over to her house and took care of her.

However, I was still severely disappointed in the way the movie was filmed.Ĭrucial parts of the movie were excluded or replaced by something else. It’s not always easy, as these are two different forms of storytelling.I tried to understand that while watching the movie because there are never perfect adaptations. When creating book to movie adaptations, there is always the struggle of staying true to the book in some way or another. I recently read The Hating Game by Sally Thorne, which has been adapted into a movie, and let’s just say I was deeply let down.
